The Amity Trio Board of Trustees

Dr. Joseph Mace enjoys a diverse career in the arts that includes performance, arts education and non-profit fundraising. Stage work includes appearances with the Metropolitan, San Francisco and New Orleans operas as well as Off-Broadway and with regional theatres and local symphonies around the country. Joseph served as a master teaching artist with the Metropolitan Opera Guild, and as a Curriculum Consultant for Reimagining Opera for Kids and Opera Saratoga. He has taught in classrooms and in the private studio for more than decade and has worked with students ranging in age from 7 to 70. Joseph holds a Doctor of Music degree from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and a Master of Music Degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He attended Tulane University for undergraduate studies in Music Performance and French.  He is an active member of Actors Equity Association and the American Guild of Musical Artists.

Nick Griffith, Vice President

Nick Griffith brings his love of music, marketing skills, and operations knowledge to the Amity Trio board. Nick attended The University of New Mexico, Anderson School of Management, for both his undergraduate degree in International Management with a minor in Spanish, and for his Master of Business Administration in Marketing. Nick was born in Flint, Michigan, and raised in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Music has always brought joy to Nick, and while at Rio Rancho High School, he was elected president of the orchestra, where he learned to play the bass under the direction of the late Eric Walters. The Land of Enchantment is a special place because Nick and his partner have chosen to purchase a 140-year-old Gothic Carpentry home in the Huning Highland Historic District of East Downtown Albuquerque.

Dr. Pineda is a choral music educator, passionate about teaching diverse music. She believes all musics are cultural ambassadors and thus, media par excellence to further understandings about and instill appreciation for cultures and their people. Recognizing diverse musics as relevant to people’s identities, she advocates for repertoire that mirror students’ backgrounds and for teachers’ high-quality preparation in world music. Consequently, her research explores approaches to prepare choral music teachers for this task. Dr. Pineda has extensive experience directing choirs both in the U.S. and Mexico, her homeland, and has relevant training in guitar, piano and voice. She is a versatile music educator comfortably teaching classical as well as vocal jazz or Mexican choral music. She is a graduate from Indiana University, where she currently is a visiting assistant professor of music education. Dr. Pineda hopes to honor cultural diversity through her teaching, research, choral programming and advocacy work.

Dean sits on the Board for Amity Trio as Treasurer. He has a 40-year career in the Industrial Truck industry in Alaska, California, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. His career has included being Vice President, General Manager, and other Senior Management positions. He was also on the Board of directors for his wife’s Travel Agency in Modesto, California. His experience in small to medium businesses brings a different perspective to the non-profit. Along with his fellow Board Members, he shares a passion for Arts, Chamber Music, and the message that Amity Trio is communicating. He appreciates Amity Trio’s mission to highlight under-represented diverse artists and connect a broad audience. He and his wife DeLora, currently live in Port Angeles Washington.  

Yolanda Treviño serves as assistant vice president for strategy, planning, and assessment in the Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for Indiana University. Her portfolio includes programs responsible for academic and cultural support, outreach and advocacy.  Treviño earned her Ph.D. in higher education from Indiana University, an M.S. degree in sociology from Northern Illinois University, and a B.A. in sociology from Baylor University in Texas. She is a member of the Bloomington Rotary Club and serves as a board member for the Children's Organization Transplant Association.  Although her personal musical career as a budding accordion player never came to fruition, she remains a lifelong supporter of music and the creative arts.

Grace Lazarz, Trustee

Grace Lazarz (she/her) is a versatile theatre artist, educator, and administrator based in Philadelphia. Currently she is pursuing her MFA in Devised Performance at Pig Iron School/University of the Arts. Previously, she created and implemented dynamic theatre programming for youth grades K-12 as well as community projects as the Volunteer Director and Education Specialist at South Bend Civic Theatre. She has an extensive background directing Shakespeare and theatre in a variety of settings, including the Fall Festival of Shakespeare (Shakespeare & Company, Lenox, MA), Summer Shakespeare Ghana (Accra), with youth with autism (Shakespeare at Notre Dame), and in the public school system (AmeriCorps service with the Robinson Community Learning Center). Additionally, she has had a variety of administrative experience, such as her two seasons with the IU Opera and Ballet Theater as the Ticketing, Sales, and House Manager. Some of her other passions include Fringe Festivals, clowning, youth empowerment, and reimagining the definition of audience within the arts world.

 Mario Arango is a practicing attorney with a passion for music and the arts and increasing the representation of minority voices in the western classical music world. Having worked professionally as a classically trained violinist after graduating from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, Mario was inspired to help creators and artists, after learning how the law impacts artisans in general. He was intent on becoming an attorney and helping creative individuals to navigate the oftentimes challenging web of intellectual property laws.  Mario has represented and advises a variety of clients, including world-class musicians, composers, authors, directors, documentarians, as well as some of the world's largest companies and is excited to bring his knowledge expertise to the Amity Trio Board of Directors.
